FAQ
WHAT’S YOUR PROCESS?
After we schedule a First Time Review, I will send you a comprehensive checklist to help you prepare for our session. Address only those items that apply to you.
You can bring the information you’ve collected with you to our meeting or you can send it in advance. I will review it with you at the time of our session.
At the top of the session, we will discuss what you would like to achieve during our first two hours together. It might be a number of things, such as investing cash sitting in your IRA and checking your 401k to make sure your contributions are invested appropriately, or perhaps talking through the costs of owning a home and then making a plan to save for a down payment. Depending on your financial priorities and the complexity of each, you can expect to get your most pressing questions answered and probably a few more.
I am action oriented. Anything we can get done and make happen on the spot, I’m up for: Investing the cash in your brokerage account, selling a mutual fund in your 401k, opening a Roth IRA. I’m there to help you, so don’t be shy about telling me where you need support. We’ll also build your to-do list.
You don’t need to be an expert in finance. That’s why you are engaging my services! I give you step-by-step guidance to get you from point A to point B, in language a normal person can understand. For instance, if you want to rollover previous employer retirement accounts into an IRA, I’ll explain how to do it, what to avoid and even help you kick-start the process during our session.
By the end of the First Time Review, your most-pressing questions will be answered, you’ll have clarity about your money and your goals, and we may have completed an action item. You’ll leave with next steps to help move your forward.
WHAT HAPPENS AT THE END OF THE TWO-HOUR FIRST TIME REVIEW?
That depends on you! If we’re on a roll and you’d like another 30 minutes or an hour to finish what we’re working on, we can continue at my hourly rate, if our schedules allow. Or, we can schedule a follow up meeting. It’s all up to you.
If the meeting satisfied all of your immediate questions and issues, we’re done. You are welcome to come back when you have new questions or need more service. There’s no commitment to book additional sessions.
Often, clients return for an annual check up or when there’s a significant change in their lives that impact their money. This includes getting engaged, getting married, having a baby, buying a home, starting a new job, receiving a promotion, losing a job, working for yourself, getting divorced, retiring, receiving an inheritance, or winning money on a game show (don’t laugh, I’ve had a couple of clients who did that!), to name a few.
WHY DOES THE FIRST TIME REVIEW COST MORE THAN YOUR HOURLY RATE?
It takes a lot of energy getting to know you and your money. You can choose to do the First Time Review and stop there. However, I value our relationship and want to offer you a discount on subsequent hours.
CAN YOU GIVE ME AN ESTIMATE OF HOW MUCH IT WILL COST ME TO WORK WITH YOU?
Not before we meet. That’s why I created the First Time Review. It’s a comprehensive review of your money through the lens of your most important goals. In the First Time Review, we will get you moving and work on as many issues as possible in two hours. At the end, if you need more guidance to get your finances in order, I’ll give you an estimate of how many more hours it will take. Of course, there’s no obligation to schedule additional meetings if that doesn’t feel right to you. We can pick up where we left off at a later date.
WHY SHOULD I HIRE YOU?
I work with people ready for change, who want to live their best life and need help with their money to achieve their most important goals. My client-centered approach means your concerns and needs are always our number one priority. I do not sell products.
If you want to have an open, honest, non-judgmental conversation about your money, I’m a great fit for you.
If you want to work with a financial planner who has a transparent business model (you only pay for the service you need, and you know exactly what you are paying for it), I’m a great fit for you.
If you are looking for a fiduciary who speaks in plain language while offering guidance that’s in your best interest, I’m a great fit for you.
If you are looking for a financial advisor who is excited to work with communities underrepresented by mainstream financial services, such as LGBTQ, African American, immigrant, Orthodox Jewish and Latinix, I’m a great fit for you.
Are you ready?
